Cam Newton, Kelvin Benjamin Have Awkward Exchange Before Panthers-Bills Preseason Game

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton

"I wasn't even trying to listen", Benjamin said, via the Panthers website.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton took some time before last night's preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills to confront his former teammate, wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin. Benjamin and Newton spoke on the field before the game in what looked like an awkward exchange.

Benjamin finished the game with four catches, 59 yards and one touchdown.

"It was a bad fit from the get-go", Kelvin told The Athletic. "It just felt like I wasn't in that position".

Things likely won't get much better for Benjamin in Buffalo, as he'll be catching passes from either A.J. McCarron, Josh Allen or Nathan Peterman.

"Moving on from it", Benjamin said repeatedly.

While Newton seemed initially friendly during the meeting, neither man was smiling as Benjamin started to walk away from him.

What a game! In a contest that had a little bit of everything, the Carolina Panthers defeated the Buffalo Bills by a 28-23 margin.

Benjamin was later asked if this was at all hard for him considering how close he and Newton were when his career began in Carolina. Well, Benjamin hasn't been a legitimate star in years, and Newton has one great season to his name with a bunch of other decent ones attached to his resume.
