Facebook Has Temporarily Banned Conspiracy Peddler Alex Jones From Its Platform

Facebook bans Alex Jones for 30 days | TheHill

Facebook has taken action against alt-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, suspending the Infowars founder for 30 days from the platform citing violations of its policies against hate speech and bullying. "All four videos have been removed from Facebook".

Like YouTube, Facebook (fb) has removed four videos that Jones posted to the social network.

Earlier this week, YouTube gave Jones a light punishment for violating its policies against "violent or graphic content" by giving him a strike, which merely prevents Jones from livestreaming on the platform for 90 days.

A Facebook spokesperson also said if Jones or his fellow admins continue to break its rules, his pages face a permanent ban from the site.

A fourth and final video reportedly featured Jones comparing the creators of an animated drag queen show to Satanists.

Facebook pointed out that it immediately removes content of a bullying nature that encourages physical harm or attacks someone based on their religious affiliation or gender identity. Among the questions posed during the panel concerned such InfoWars conspiracy theories as the so-called "Sandy Hook massacre hoax" and the falsehood that the 9/11 terrorist attacks were an inside job.

His channel, which boasts more than 2.4 million subscribers, is in danger of being removed if he receives another two "community strikes" within three months. This week, Facebook determined that one of Jones' recent videos - an inflammatory rant in which he accused Robert Mueller, the special counsel, of supporting pedophilia and pantomimed shooting him - did not violate its policies.

CNN reported last week that the InfoWars Facebook page has skirted a number disciplinary measures that Facebook has in place to enforce its community guidelines. Asked by CNN how they can claim to be serious about tackling the problem of misinformation online while simultaneously allowing InfoWars to maintain a page with almost one million followers, company executives struggled to provide an answer.

As a result, the pages remain up and other administrators can still post content to them. The other video was reported a month ago, but was not taken down at the time, the spokesperson added. Upon re-review, Facebook chose to take down the video for its violation.
