News media is enemy of people’ Donald Trump says ahead of summit with Russian president

U.S. President Donald Trump is setting low expectations for his Monday's summit in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

President Donald Trump sat down for an interview with CBS Evening News anchor Jeff Glor and previewed his big summit with Vladimir Putin.

"I have the highest confidence in the men and women in our intelligence communities and their conclusive evidence regarding Russia's deliberate efforts to interfere in our elections". The meeting comes days after the office of special counsel Robert Mueller indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking into computers during the 2016 election.

The United States has no extradition treaty with Moscow and can't compel Russian Federation to hand over citizens, and a provision in Russia's constitution prohibits extraditing its citizens to foreign countries.

Trump plans to meet one-on-one with Putin at the start of their first formal summit talks in Helsinki, Finland, before allowing other aides to participate.

But he said he found it "hard to believe" Mr Putin did not know about the alleged election hacking and the subject would be mentioned. "I believe that having a meeting with Chairman Kim was a good thing. Nothing bad is going to come out of it, and maybe some good will come out". Look, if we can get along with Russian Federation that's a good thing.

Trump also attacked the media.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters he's confident the meeting will put America in a better place and said it's important the two leaders meet.

At a joint press conference Friday with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump told reporters he would "absolutely" bring up the issue of Russian Federation interference in the election during his meeting with Putin. Bolton in an interview to ABC News said that it was unlikely that the USA would be able to arrest or extradite the 12 Russians who were indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday.

Trump and Putin have met twice before, during global summits previous year in Germany and in Vietnam. "The state of bilateral relations is very bad", Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov said.

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) attacked CNN's Wolf Blitzer during his show on Monday. Paul then attacked Blitzer's interviewing skills.
