He further said "today that there is a new pressure on the Iranian people and society, all Iranians should stand together and increase efforts for the greatness of Iran". "There's going to be enormous amount of pressure brought to bear on US allies to comply".

The NCRI is led by Iranian exile group Mujahedin-e Khalq, which advocates the "overthrow" of "religious dictatorship" in Iran, and accused the Iranian government of coordinating the attack.

American and European banks and companies that invested in Iran after the landmark deal known officially as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) took effect in 2015 have a brief window to wind down business ties before incurring penalties.

Mr Hook said that the first part of USA sanctions against Iran will snap back on August 6.

An EU spokesperson said Brussels is in regular contact with Washington regarding the oil sanctions and stressed that "the EU remains fully committed to the nuclear deal and to the full and effective lifting of all nuclear-related sanctions on Iran".

In the past, whenever the U.S. would try to stage a plot against the Iranian nation, it could convince a part of the world to follow suit, but evidently that is not the case in today's world, where Washington has little support in its hostile stance against Iran, Rouhani said.

Rouhani on Monday blasted the re-implementation of US sanctions on Iran, saying that the penalties had the greatest impact on Iranian citizens.

The Iranian president is in Europe to gather support ahead of a meeting later this week between Iran and the five global powers that are still party to the 2015 nuclear deal.

US President Donald Trump speaks to the press after announcing his decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran during a speech from the Diplomatic Reception Room at the White House on May 8, 2018.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has said he will respect the nuclear deal with world powers as long as the country's interests are preserved. Tehran said its foreign minister would meet counterparts from US allies Britain, France and Germany, as well as Russian Federation and China, in Vienna on Friday to discuss ways of maintaining the nuclear deal.

Meanwhile, a major focus of Trump's campaign is to drive Tehran's economy-sustaining oil exports to zero.

Notable countries that import Iranian crude include Turkey, India, China and South Korea.

He also suggested, however, that there would be some legroom with other countries that import Iranian oil from avoiding immediate sanctions, once they are set to be re-imposed come November 4.

When asked at a news conference in Bern later on Tuesday whether those comments constituted a threat to interfere with the shipping of neighboring countries, Rouhani said: "Assuming that Iran could become the only oil producer unable to export its oil is a wrong assumption".

"I don't think the State Department would have the confidence to say "zero exports" if they didn't have China on board", said Sara Vakhshouri, a veteran of the Iranian state oil company now at SVB Energy International, an energy consultancy. He said US teams of State Department and Treasury officials had visited 13 countries in Europe and East Asia so far, to dissuade governments and companies from doing business with Iran.
