DOJ: Comey's handling of Clinton email investigation unconventional but not biased

Foreign agents got access to Hillary Clinton's email including one classified as secret

The president was responding to questions about the 568-page report released Thursday by the Department of Justice (DOJ) inspector general (IG) concerning the 2016 FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server and address to conduct official US diplomatic business.

In interviews included in the report, both Strozk and Page acknowledged that some of their texts could be read as showing their bias against Trump, both during the early stages of the collusion investigation and after Trump assumed office in January 2017.

The IG report cited repeated examples of intense partisan political bias among key FBI executives on the email investigation but concluded that "We did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that improper considerations, including political bias, directly affected the specific investigative decisions".

But Trump has ramped up his language on the report and has trained his sights on Comey in particular.

"People are calm and pleased to be arriving in Spain", the group said.

Horowitz also suggested that Strzok's bias might have played a role in the FBI's not acting expeditiously in the fall of 2016 to follow up on a new lead related to the Clinton email case.

Mueller is investigating whether Trump associates coordinated with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election and whether Trump took steps to shut down that investigation through actions including the firing of Comey. "Even if the report is a devastating indictment of Trump, the political tribalism in the country is so deep and won't suddenly go away".

The report lambastes Strzok and a now-retired Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer, Lisa Page, for text exchanges that it says were "deeply troubling" and created the appearance "that investigative decisions were impacted by bias or improper considerations". "Comey will now officially go down as the worst leader, by far, in the history of the FBI", Trump tweeted.

“But my emails, ” she said, reacting in a three-word tweet.

The FBI leadership waited almost a month after receiving initial information about the laptop to reopen the investigation and notifying Congress about it, the IG report shows.

When Manafort was first indicted, the White House said the charges had nothing to do with the president and the 2016 campaign. Most notably, Horowitz wrote that Strzok forwarded an email to his personal account regarding a proposed search warrant for former Congressman Anthony Weiner's laptop computer.

President Donald Trump applauded a review of how the FBI investigated Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton Friday while calling its conclusion flawed. "We'll stop it", Strzok responded.

FBI Director Chris Wray told reporters the FBI accepted the report's findings and was making changes, including requiring further training for FBI employees and re-emphasizing the importance of objectivity.

More importantly than anything, it totally exonerates me.

Trump wielded it as a blunt instrument Friday, bludgeoning the integrity of the Justice Department. But should Mueller finish his probe, any fallout will lie in Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein's hands as he has the authority to decide whether to release the information publicly and when and if he should refer the report to Congress to consider impeachment.
