Nawaz, Maryam to depart for London as Kulsoom Nawaz hospitalised again

LHC bars Pemra from airing anti-judiciary content

The court directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, or Pemra, to take a call on the petitions filed against the Sharifs within 15 days. "Instead of taking action, Pemra sought advice from judiciary".

When the court asked the regulatory body why it had dismissed the petitions, Pemra's counsel Salman Akram Raja said the allegations against the government agency were baseless.

He drew the attention to Article 68, saying it even prevented the Parliament from criticising the judiciary and its decisions.

After hearing arguments of the both sides, the bench reserved the verdict for a while and then assembled again and announced it.

The petitioners pleaded with the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Sharif and his daughter and restrain them from maligning the judiciary.

Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the former prime minister will also accompany him.

The ousted premier said Pakistan belonged to everyone equally and every citizen had the same rights.

The political future of Mr. Sharif, who leads the country's most powerful political family and his party (PML-N), has been hanging in the balance since then.
