Criminal Deportee Escapes ICE Custody at JFK Airport

The Port Authority released a statement after the incident: "An individual being transported by federal immigration officials at JFK Airport last night eluded custody during transfer to a connecting flight".

The man, who officials say is a "violent deportee", had a previous arrest stemming from a weapons charge, the New York Daily News reported. The circumstances surrounding the detainee's escape were not immediately clear.

Mohamadou Lamine Mbacke, 31, remained at large Wednesday, according to the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, which oversees the airport.

The man allegedly escaped from the agents at Gate B23, in Terminal 4, around 8:30pm on Tuesday.

A spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement says Mohamadou Lamine Mbacke was in the custody of its agents at the airport Tuesday night when he bolted and got into a cab. The agents had taken off his handcuffs when he was brought through screening, and he was about to be then escorted onto a plane when he ran away.

Officials said no passengers were ever in any danger. He is described as a black male, 6-feet-3 and about 190 pounds.

Fox 5 News reached out to ICE for more details but the agency has not responded.
