Billionaire Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban Was Accused of Sexual Assault in 2011

Report PPB investigated Mark Cuban for sex assault in 2011

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has denied allegations of a 2011 sexual assault after a Portland, Oregon newspaper published details of the case in wake of a Sports Illustrated report that labeled the Mavericks workplace, "a corporate culture rife with misogyny and predatory sexual behavior". Following an investigation, the Multnomah County District's Attorney's Office declined to proceed with the case for lack of evidence, and the alleged victim also decided not to pursue charges.

Cuban denied the allegations in an email to the paper, saying, "It didn't happen".

Nigel Jaquiss of of the Portland, Ore., publication Williamette Week obtained a 50-page police report from an incident in May 2011 in which a woman claimed Cuban sexually assaulted her while she was posing for a photo with the Mavs owner at a Portland nightclub called the Barrel Room. She told the newspaper she never sought media attention or money from Cuban and has moved on from the incident.

Cuban spoke to police directly following the report being filed.

After initially being embarrassed about what she says happened, the woman went to the police a week later. "In one of the pictures, his arm can be seen behind [the alleged victim] and it appears Cuban is reaching down toward her buttocks".

The woman told the Willamette Week in a recent interview she still stood by the charges. "I stand behind that report 1,000%".

She reportedly told police two weeks later, including in her complaint seven photographs taken of her and Cuban. HuffPost has reached out to Cuban for additional comment. "How would I get, I mean, she wouldn't say something right there and then and smack the shit out of me?"

In the wake of the SI report, Cuban fired Mavs.com reporter Earl K. Sneed, telling ESPN that keeping Sneed on board after multiple domestic violence incidents was "a awful mistake in hindsight".

The report included claims of inappropriate sexual conduct by former CEO Terdema Ussery and raised questions about what Cuban knew and when.
