Amazon is rewarding Prime members for shopping at Whole Foods stores

Amazon Whole Foods

Most importantly, it gives Prime members another reason to shop Whole Foods, and helps Amazon strengthen its industry-leading loyalty program. Now it looks like they might have come up with a way.

Since buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion past year, Amazon has been working to streamline operations at Whole Foods - which has lagged rivals like Kroger Co in offering shopper loyalty programs, centralizing marketing and purchasing and using data to analyze what it should sell in stores. The payback is not just limited to Prime members, as non-Prime users will also get 3% back on Whole Foods Market purchases.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) continued its impressive string of quick integrations with Whole Foods this week by offering a substantial reward for shoppers that buy groceries using their Amazon-branded credit cards. The non-Prime version of the card offers 3% back. Additionally, both Prime and non-Prime cardholders earn 2 percent back on gas stations, restaurants and drug stores, and 1 percent back on all other purchases. If you're not a Prime member, you will get three percent back. For example, to use the recent Prime Valentine's Day rose promotion, Whole Foods customers had to present a printed bar code. Amazon acquired Whole Foods for $13.7 billion past year in June.

Prime Members will want to consider adding Whole Foods to their regular shopping schedule, thanks to a new partnership between Amazon.com, Chase, and Whole Foods Market.

After the acquisition a year ago, Amazon Worldwide Consumer CEO Jeff Wilke said that the company is planning to "make Amazon Prime the customer rewards program at Whole Foods Market". The e-commerce giant announced last week that it will offer free two-hour delivery of Whole Foods groceries in four USA cities. It has also rolled up its Treasure Truck deals service to Whole Foods locations, and began delivering Whole Foods groceries through Prime. Amazon's call for a new inventory management system resulted in fewer items on the shelves.
