Indianapolis Colts Hire New Head Coach

Getting Luck into the Patriots system McDaniels has perfected in New England could be the key to finally unlocking the quarterback's potential, but only time will tell.

In fact, Mark Maske of the Washington Post reported that the deal is nearing its completion.

The clear favorite as general manager Chris Ballard's coaching search unfolded, the New England Patriots offensive coordinator agreed to a multi-year contract with the team Tuesday.

Longtime Colts Fox59 Colts reporter Mike Chappell reported early Monday that Indianapolis indeed was moving forward with McDaniels as its head coach, saying the Colts would be "royally pissed" if the two sides break the "unofficial" agreement in place.

"I'm incredibly honored and grateful to be named Head Coach of the Detroit Lions", Patricia said in a statement.

Indianapolis will be McDaniels' second foray as head coach.

McDaniels has captured five Super Bowl titles in New England after joining Bill Belichick's staff in 2001. He was sacked during his second year with the Denver Broncos, with whom he posted an 11-17 mark during the 2009-10 seasons.

The Colts likely want that same success with Andrew Luck, who was sidelined with a shoulder injury for the entire 2017 season. The smarter approach would be to contact guys like running back Dion Lewis and offensive tackle Nate Solder, two players whom McDaniels coached in New England and could not only step right in and start at positions of need, but also help the rest of the team get acquainted with schemes and terminology. O'Shea has been the Patriots' receivers coach since 2009.

McDaniels was one of the bright spots of the Patriots Super Bowl 52 meltdown, however. The team is expected to make the official announcement at a press conference this week.
