Lorde Refuses to Perform at Grammys Over Song Dispute

Not Released

Instead, Lorde was asked to be part of a Tom Petty tribute singing "American Girl", which probably felt odd since she's not American (Not surprisingly, Lorde turned it down).

A recent report in Variety claims that all the male artists in the Album of the Year category -Childish Gambino, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, and Bruno Mars - were offered solo performance slots.

Lorde is a Grammys veteran, winning two of the awards in 2014 after the release of her debut album.

Yet, despite being nominated for the night's top prize, Lorde was not asked to give a solo performance during the ceremony.

After not being able to come to an agreement with the company, Lorde made a decision to pull out of the show altogether and has even said she won't appear on the red carpet. They would only let her perform as part of a planned Tom Petty tribute.

TMZ reports she'll also be giving the Grammy's red carpet a miss this year, though she will attend the ceremony.

On Friday, she tweeted an article noting, "Of the 899 people to be nominated for Grammy awards in the past six years, only nine per cent were women".

Reps for the Grammys and Lorde did not immediately respond to Variety's request for comment.

The Gen Y pop star won't be doing her cohort any favors to dispel the perception of entitled youth, only compounded by the fact that she's a multi-millionaire music star who is only 21 years old (all South Park conspiracy theories aside).
