Google's Arts & Culture App Is Driving The Latest Viral Selfie Trend

Getting started is easy just scroll down on the app's home page until you see this prompt

Google wouldn't comment on when the app will begin showing up in those states and internationally.

"When you take a photo with this feature, your photo is sent to Google to find artworks that look like you", Google explains in the app.

Yes, it is a great app for art and history lovers alike, but guess what made Arts & Culture so popular lately? The Google Arts & Culture app still seems to be perfecting the feature and are likely to become more accurate in the future. It has been around for a couple years, allowing you to browse collections curated by experts from the most famous museums.

Still, even if it doesn't deliver some kind of mind-blowing match each time you run a selfie through the service, what results is a pretty fun and addicting romp through the world of classic art.

What is everyone using it now?

The app, which lets you discover works of art and curates interesting articles about arts and culture, now has a new feature: upload a selfie, and it'll give you a list of portraits you resemble. It's also very shareable.

Google uses pattern recognition to recognise faces and provide similar portraits from its database, which has been procured from museums and other institutions. Google has told some news outlets that the feature is experimental, so don't take things too personally if it matches you to a Picasso painting. The popup is accompanied by "Get Started".

Grant permission to your camera and photos.

Step Four: Take a selfie. The results also show the percentage of the match.

However, some social media users desperate to find out whether they have a doppelganger in a Renoir, or a lookalike hovering in a famous piece by Van Gogh have been left disappointed.
