NBC News source says Matt Lauer will not receive a payout

Matt Lauer's wife long-suffering wife Annette Roque has reportedly left NY for her native Netherlands amid allegations that her husband sexually assaulted and abused multiple female staffers at NBC.

Savannah Guthrie, you'll recall, got unhappy assignment of announcing Lauer's sacking on Wednesday - though we hear he got the news Tuesday night.

As previously reported, Lauer was sacked by NBC News chairman Andrew Lack late Tuesday, November 28, after a female colleague of the journalist claimed he engaged in "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace".

Lauer previously earned $20 million a year with NBC, and somehow believes that despite his predatory behavior, he is still entitled to the remainder of his contract, which was supposed to run through 2018. He does, however, have a price tag - $30M.

Though Lauer's contract called for him to be paid tens of millions of dollars, the network doesn't expect to pay it now that he's been fired, a senior NBC source told the outlet.

His last day was Tuesday. Lauer did not try to fight the firing but his legal team is planning to seek the money he would lose by NBC not paying out the contract.

Television news contracts typically include a morals clause, giving a network some flexibility to fire a high-priced anchor for cause.

However, NBC is pushing back, saying that the contract is void because Lauer was sacked "with cause", a.k.a.

NBC staff members received a memo on Friday afternoon from Mr. Lack who addressed, "the circumstances around Matt Lauer's appalling behavior, why this was able to happen, and why it wasn't reported sooner".
