Facebook Wants You To Upload Nudes Of Yourself To Stop Revenge Porn

Facebook is asking users to upload nudes to stop revenge porn online

Australia, which launched a national portal to address the issues of the revenge porn victims last month, is the first country to test Facebook's new anti-revenge porn tool.

So if a relationship goes sour, you could take proactive steps to prevent any intimate images in possession of your former love interest from being shared widely on Facebook or Instagram.

According to ABC Australia, the new scheme means that people who are subjected to "image-based abuse" can now take action before pictures are posted on Facebook, Instagram or Messenger.

It seems Australians are having problems with #Revenge Porn, or to give it a more official title, "image-based abuse".

The way Facebook explains it, any attempts to upload your explicit photos will be thwarted when the hacker or your ex-paramour tries to put the same image online because Facebook will have an "image" with which to compare the nude upload. Once Facebook gets that notification, a community operations analyst will access the image and hash it to prevent future instances from being uploaded or shared.

Earlier this year, lawyer Daniel Szalkiewicz criticized social networks, and in particular Facebook, for having "broken" revenge porn policies. The program asks users to send a message to themselves via Messenger. With its billions of users, Facebook is one place where many offenders aggress because they can maximize the harm by broadcasting the nonconsensual porn to those most close to the victim.

A recent study found that one in five Australians have been victims of revenge porn.

It works like this: you send Facebook your nudes, the company's software has a look and then image matching algorithms will continuously comb the site to make sure that no images matching your nudes are posted.

It's an idea that sounds like utter madness, but Facebook is at pains to convince users that it's actually a brilliant solution.

Right now, the company is doing a trial run in Australia but will introduce new trials in the United Kingdom, U.S, and Canada.

Rather than sharing the images you would like to protect with Facebook, you would instead share them with yourself via Messenger.

Facebook's software would create a "hash" - a digital fingerprint of the photo - so it can be recognized if it's uploaded, and automatically blocked. Well, share your nude photo first with Facebook.
