Was Trump right all along about being wiretapped?

Manafort was under surveillance by FBI before and after election: report

One has to wonder if the outcome of the 2016 presidential election would have been different had the public known that Donald Trump's campaign chairman, Paul Manafort had his phone bugged by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that he would be told within months that an indictment was pending. According to sources, the new warrant was issued in an effort by the FBI to investigate ties between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives.

Two of those sources say the evidence is not conclusive.

After the 2014 warrant ended, it was renewed again until earlier this year, in order to allow the FBI to investigate ties between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives. Despite Manafort resigning as Trump's campaign manager in August 2016 due to reports about his connections to the Vladimir Putin regime, the two men remained in touch even after Trump was elected president.

But Monday's CNN report shows that the FBI investigation has gone further than previously known.

Manafort has been under scrutiny since 2014, CNN reported, because of his foreign lobbying work. "It is possible now-as has been noted many times since Trump tweeted his accusation in March-that if the USA president was in communication with these individuals, his communications might have been incidentally collected". That can only come from the Justice Department, with the approval of a FISA court.

Now, the information from those wiretaps has been turned over to Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor investing the Trump campaign's, or investigating, excuse me, the Trump campaign's collusion, potential collusion with Russian Federation.

Manafort was not under surveillance during the period in which he, Donald Trump Jr., and Jared Kushner met with a Russian lawyer, possibly to discuss information that would be damaging to Hillary Clinton. Some of the conversations listened to were reportedly with US President Donald Trump after he was elected.

Meanwhile, the Times reports that Mueller has pursued aggressive tactics against Manafort, including sending agents to pick the lock to Manafort's home to execute a warrant. CNN reports that "t$3 he Federal Bureau of Investigation interest in Manafort" dates back to when he was working on behalf of pro-Putin interests in Ukraine in 2014. Where some members of the Trump team have been invited to speak with Mueller's investigators, Manafort and Flynn have received grand-jury subpoenas.

The president can complain all he wants about investigations of his associates.

Meanwhile, Mueller continues to strengthen his team of top investigators, recently recruiting New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to reportedly help investigate Manafort for possible financial crimes and money laundering.
