The film is supposed to explain what happened from the original, Harrison Ford/Ridley Scott masterpiece, up to the new film, Blade Runner 2049. Music composition is being handled by Flying Lotus. After the first film about the enigmatic antagonist of the film played by Jared Leto, this is the one dedicated to Dave Bautista, whose imposing stature will take on the role of the mysterious Sapper.

The IMAX release of Blade Runner 2049 will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.
