Oxlade-Chamberlain set for Liverpool move

Carl Jenkinson battles for the ball with Danny Welbeck

Oxlade-Chamberlain became the second England worldwide to leave Arsenal in two days when he joined Premier League rivals Liverpool yesterday.

Speaking on BBC Five Live, via the Express, Wilson said: "I'm particularly upset about Alex".

"He is a good player for the squad at this moment, but central midfield, I am still scratching my head on that one". His performance against Liverpool in Arsenal's 4-0 hiding drew flak from fans with his future up in the air. "This is a terrific blow to Arsenal, but I'm not sure it's good for Alex himself".

New Liverpool winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain says his "ongoing development" is the reason why he made a decision to leave Arsenal.

"He could play in Jurgen Klopp's style, he's got huge talent, he's a decent lad but I think he has three or four areas of his game that he has to significantly improve".

So, with just 48 hours remaining of the transfer window, Arsenal may need to install a swing door for the amount of players who could be on their way out of it.

'But I think he's a very, very positive signing'.

It has been widely reported that the England worldwide snubbed Chelsea for Klopp's side as he felt he might have been used as wing-back for the Blues - a position he does not want to play.

The "shaaambles" hashtag refers to Oxlade-Chamberlain's nickname, rather than being a comment on Arsenal's dealings.

Without a Premier League title in 13 years and absent from the Champions League this season following last term's fifth-place finish, Arsenal are no longer a marquee destination for the sport's top stars.

But if Klopp turns Oxlade-Chamberlain into the player he wasn't able to become at the Emirates, the cost to Wenger's reputation will be high indeed.

The former Southampton midfielder snubbed a massive bumper contract from Arsenal as well as a lucrative deal from Chelsea to join Liverpool.
