Gase confirms Dolphins and Cutler have mutual interest following Dolphins intrasquad scrimmage

Jay Cutler finalizing one year contract with Dolphins

Cutler will most likely fill the void left by current Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who suffered a knee injury during training camp and may require season-ending surgery. On Sunday, Schefter reported that Cutler will come out of his brief retirement and is finalizing a one-year, $10 million deal to play for the Dolphins.

Jay Cutler is leaning toward staying in broadcasting and not joining the Miami Dolphins, sources close to the situation told ESPN on Saturday. The network has been operating all offseason on the assumption Cutler is aboard, shaping their broadcaster lineup accordingly. The 34-year-old quarterback should be able to re-acclimate to Gase's system quickly, but will need to build chemistry with his new teammates in Miami.

Tannehill reinjures left knee in practice

It has been quite a week for the Miami Dolphins' quarterback room. Then Jay Cutler's name was brought into the mix.

Should Tannehill be sidelined, Matt Moore would step into the starting role barring any signings from outside of the organisation.

As for Cutler, he enjoyed his best pro season while working under Gase.

Gase was the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears when Cutler had his career-best passer rating with them in 2015. He made a decision to retire after only receiving interest from the New York Jets.

I mentioned the other day that the injury to Ryan Tannehill didn't look good at all and there was a very real chance that he could miss the entire 2017 season.

Tannehill's injury summoned questions regarding former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who remains unsigned only a couple of years removed from a Super Bowl appearance.

Like Cutler's deep balls, "guru" is a word that's thrown around haphazardly in National Football League circles, but Gase deserves the title. Instead, if Cutler is going to return, he wants to make sure the abrupt change of lifestyle is monetarily worthwhile, sources said.
