Shooting at Israeli Embassy in Jordan kills at least 1 person

Jordanian street voices anger over Al Aqsa restrictions

Zakria Jawawdah, the father of Mohammad Jawawdah, the Jordanian national who was killed Sunday evening by an Israeli security guard near the Israeli embassy in Amman, has called for a full investigation into his son's death. Netanyahu said that the government was "carrying out discussions at all levels with security officials in Israel and the government in Amman in order to bring this situation to a resolution".

The incident occurred as tensions are running high after Israeli implemented new security measures around a religious site in Jerusalem, holy to both Jews and Muslims.

The two Jordanians - carpenters who were installing new furniture - were shot after one of them, 17-year-old Mohammed Jawawdeh, stabbed the Israeli guard with a screwdriver, wounding him.

Israel says the measures are meant to prevent more attacks but Palestinians allege they are an Israeli attempt to control the Muslim-administrated site and have launched mass protests.

The metal detectors remained in place on Sunday, though cameras had also been mounted near at least one entrance to the compound in Jerusalem's Old City. Israel's move triggered Muslim protests and claims that it's trying to expand its role at the site, which is also holy to Jews.

The incident had potential to cause a rift in already tense Israel-Jordan relations, because Jordan wanted to question the Israeli guard, who was lightly injured, but Israel said he had diplomatic immunity under the Vienna Convention.
