Diamond Bank Confirms Apapa Fire Incident

BREAKING Riot rocks Apapa as policeman shoots tanker driver dead

The post Unrest In Lagos As Angry Truck Drivers Set Banks Ablaze appeared first on leadership.ng.

Reports reaching NAIJ.com indicate that a mob has reportedly set Sterling bank in Apapa, Lagos state on fire after a mobile policeman attached to the bank shot a tanker driver dead.

PM News reports that the policeman shot a trailer driver who got into a scuffle with him when he refused to allow him (trailer driver) park in front of the bank since the entire Burma Road had been overtaken by indiscriminate parking by trailer and tanker drivers.

The inferno was said to have spread to a second bank nearby, forcing it as well as other banks in the area to shut down.

It was gathered that the mobile policeman had fired shots at the tanker drivers who as always had blocked the entrance of the bank.

The Lagos Police Command is said to have mobilised personnel to the scene of the pandemonium to bring it under control.

The corpse of the dead truck driver was said to have been deposited at the Apapa General Hospital. The branch's reception area was vandalised and set ablaze.

The tanker drivers who were angry chased the officer into the bank where he was been protected by security guards.

It was gathered that they injured at least three policemen, who were going about their businesses, before proceeding to set the banks ablaze.

According to reports, the mob set the bank on fire after the management failed to release the security officer who was hiding inside the bank to them.

Trouble started when the mobile cop allegedly ordered the deceased driver to move his heavy duty vehicle away from premises of the bank.

"An armed mobile policeman fleeing from an irate mob after shooting a tanker driver disrupted banking operations at the Sterling Bank branch on Creek Road this morning".

It took the intervention of some soldiers deployed from the Signal Corps of the Nigerian Army (NA) to restore sanity to the area.

Here's an update on the reported incident earlier in the day at our Apapa branch.

Another version of the account said the erring mobile policeman was attached to one of the banks.
