Resigned Mayawati seeks comeback by regaining dalit vote bank

Parliament House in New Delhi

Mayawati walked out of the Upper House before formally announcinh her resignation, ANI reported.

As expected, Mayawati had the ready support of leader of opposition Gulam Nabi Azad who also alleged that the dalits, minorities and the poor sections of the sociiety were at the receiving end under the present dispensation. "I was asked to speak for three minutes in the House", Mayawati told reporters after she left Parliament. She has been in national politics since a bit of time now.

"She is trying to find a niche for herself for 2019 (general elections)", said Dr Aftab Alam, associate professor of political science of Aligarh Muslim University. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders tried their best to ensure she does not speak.

Political observers also feel that Mayawati may not have resigned in a fit of rage for being denied a chance to speak on the issue of atrocities on weaker sections, and that it was an outcome of a well-calculated move. She was soon seen walking out in a rage.
