Is Square Enix game coming to Nintendo Switch?

The cast of Toy Story join Kingdom Hearts 3 in new gameplay trailer

The publisher unveiled a new trailer at Disney's fan convention D23 Expo this weekend and announced a 2018 release date.

Disney also unveiled a brand new Toy Story-themed gameplay trailer. After successfully defeating their foes, the trio is greeted by none other than Woody, Buzz and the gang from the Toy Story franchise.

With the voice acting in this trailer done in Japanese, it isn't clear if original film voice actors Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, John Rotzenberger and Wallace Shawn will reprise their characters in Kingdom Hearts III. During the reveal of Woody and Andy's room, we saw Sora, Donald and Goofy fight off some Heartless. This is the first time a character medal from KINGDOM HEARTS III has been added to the game. "It is completely original and exclusive to Kingdom Hearts, so you can nearly say it's a sequel of some sort". According to Nomura, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Kingdom Hearts 3 will have to be completed before talks of a Switch version could come to fruition.

Past year at D23, Square Enix announced that Big Hero 6 will be one of the new worlds coming to Kingdom Hearts 3. For now, you can look forward to Kingdom Hearts 3 and a more adult-looking Sora coming to the PS4 and Xbox One in 2018, hopefully.

Speaking to IGN at D23, game director Tetsuya Nomura said that the increased character count was a result of the power of new hardware. This will mark the very first time a Pixar title has been adapted for the series. Once seen as a head-scratching experiment to combine the best of Disney and Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts has earned widespread critical and popular acclaim.

But while fans are no doubt excited by what they see in the video, it lacks what they probably want to see most of all: an exact release date for the game.

But now thanks to the confirmation that we got from Square Enix, it's all good!

We'll have more on Kingdom Hearts III as it becomes available. Fans will also be able to take to the world of Tangled in the game. We ask you to stay tuned for more information. Returning worlds will include Hercules' Mount Olympus.
