Apple Could Replace 4th Gen iPads With iPad Air 2 During Service

The iPad Air 2 also has more interesting unit colors to offer such as Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. The upgrade will be available on Apple stores and authorized service providers. Moreover, the new device they will receive has newer components and it's more powerful than the previous version overall.

The iPad Air 2 was discontinued in March following the announcement of the latest iPad, which takes its place and removed the Airs from the iPad lineup. Now that supplies of the fourth generation are dwindling, Apple has apparently freed its employees to substitute an iPad that's two generations newer. Apple has given constant support to the tablet for the last five years but now since the production has been stopped the company is running out of units to offer as a replacement.

Apple's family of iPads consists of, from left, the iPad Mini 4; the new iPad; the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and the 12.9-inch one, with the Apple Pencil. Hence, interested users are advised to check with authorized Apple store and service centers if their iPad 4 is eligible for an upgrade. As it would depend on factors such as availability of stocks in specific regions, or if your iPad 4 qualifies for a free upgrade.

Also, if you have either a 16 or 64GB iPad 4 that needs to be replaced, you could also get a nice storage bump as the iPad Air 2 units are only available with 32GB or 128GB storage capacity. The fourth-gen iPad was originally launched in 2012, and in 2014, it was replaced with the iPad Air 2.

The new iPad comes equipped with an A9 chip with 64-bit architecture, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera, Touch ID, and iOS 10 out of the box. It sports a 9.7-inch screen and retails for a starting price of $329, targeted for budget users.

However, while there is a bit of catch, this is still potentially a great way to get a free upgrade.
